Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading is a supplementary series of books designed to teach the names of the notes and their positions on the keyboard. These books should be used in conjunction with the Lesson and Technique Books of the Succeeding at the Piano® series published by The FJH Music Company Inc. (Note: The Mister Bass Clef® books are not sponsored by or affiliated with Succeeding at the Piano® in any way.)

What makes the series successful:

• New notes are introduced and reinforced through Say and Play Sheets.
• The Say and Play Sheets are timed making them exciting for the student and giving them a goal to reach.
• Fingering constantly changes to prevent the student from associating a certain note with a specific finger.
• The Practice Sheets in the back of the book can be used by a parent who doesn't know the note names or for self study.

The Say and Play Sheets should be studied until the student can say each exercise in 15 seconds or less and play each exercise in 15 seconds or less (ignoring the time value of the notes). When the student says the exercise, the teacher or parent may choose to point to notes from left to right or from right to left to prevent memorizing. Students should play all the exercises from left to right as the teacher points to each note. The teacher or parent should not move on to the next note until it is said or played correctly by the student.

Before playing a Say and Play Sheet or one of the songs in the Preparatory Level, the student should first find the hand positions to be used by locating the fingering for the left hand below the staff and the fingering for the right hand above the staff.

PREPARATORY LEVEL

Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Preparatory Level should be used in conjunction with Lesson and Technique Book - Preparatory of the Succeeding at the Piano® series.

Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Preparatory Level begins by having the student locate the keys on the piano by letter name. Then the notes on the staff are introduced one at a time and reinforced through Say and Play Sheets.

At the completion of Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Preparatory Level, the student will be able to read and locate five treble clef notes and eight bass clef notes and be ready for Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Grade 1.

PREPARATORY LEVEL REVIEW

Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Level Preparatory Level Review should be used with any student who is already past the Preparatory Level of the Succeeding at the PIano® series but is not able to name the 5 treble clef notes from middle C up to G and the 8 bass clef notes from middle C down to bass C.

This book is a review of the notes introduced in the Preparatory Level. The notes are reviewed one at a time through Say and Play Sheets.

GRADE 1

Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Grade 1 should be used in conjunction with Lesson and Technique Book - Grade 1 of the Succeeding at the Piano® series.

Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Grade 1 continues to teach the names of the notes on the staff through Say and Play Sheets. On the Find the Keys - Sharps and Flats page, the student must locate the sharp and flat keys on the piano by letter name.

At the completion of Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Grade 1, the student will be able to read and locate twelve treble clef notes and twelve bass clef notes and be ready for Mister Bass Clef® teaches Note Reading Grade 2A.
